Honu Vases
|
|
After living in the islands the last 35 years, I wanted to describe the
feeling of aloha. The honu, or marine turtle, lives to be 300-500 years
old. The ancient Hawaiians respected the honu for its long
life and serinity. The bowl shape at the lip of the vase recieves the
blessing of long life and serinity. The vase itself contains it. The
glaze, the water washing up on the beach, and the overall form, that of
a pineapple. The pineapple universally means hospitality and friendship.
Thus describing the Hawaiian Islands. I would say hospitality,
friendship, long life, and serinity.
